Marina A. Gunst, LCSW

My Approach

My overall style is one of warmth, caring and genuineness.  I am a hopeful person and I believe, no matter how painful one's life feels, we can learn how to make things better.  I also believe that humor can be very healing and that sometimes we need to be able to laugh at ourselves in a gentle, compassionate way.

I like to have a collaborative relationship where we work together to explore issues and find solutions.  In that process, I use many different techniques, including relational therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing - a way of dealing with traumatic experiences), reality therapy and others.  No one style fits everyone, so I try to tailor my techniques to a person's needs.

Some (but not all) of the issues I work with include:
        - Trauma
        - Relationship Conflicts (including married, unmarried, and LBGT)
        - Pre-Marital Counseling
        - Depression
        - Anxiety
        - Chemical Dependency and Codependency
        - Issues around food & eating
        - Grief and Loss (including grief over loss of pets)

If you have any questions about me and the work that I do, please do not hesitate to call me.  If I am not the right therapist for you, I will do my best to refer you to other therapists who may be a better fit for your needs.
